attitude is everything book summary

Summary Of ‘Attitude Is Everything’

‘Attitude is everything’ is one of the finest self-help books ever written on attitude. It got published in 1999. Its author is Jeff Keller – a person who rose from a common lawyer to a well-known motivational speaker. ‘Attitude is everything’ is short, it is brief, but Jeff Keller has summed up (almost) everything within it, related to attitude.

Basically people misunderstand attitude. They believe that attitude and ego are the same terms. But there is a huge difference between these two elements, as the difference between an iceberg and a small piece of ice. The small piece of ice is ego, while attitude is an iceberg.

Jeff Keller says in ‘Attitude is everything’ that your attitude is your window to the world. It is the way you see the world. While ego is something that I talked about in the summary of ‘The power of Now’.

As a matter of fact, when we were kids, we used to giggle and laugh all day. But with the passage of time, things changed. We stopped laughing as we used to because our window got dirty. It got dirty by criticism, failures, rejections, disappointments, and doubts. These things made a difference in our attitude. To clean this window, you ought to maintain a positive attitude. When you clear your window, the other success principals shine through. And when you combine a positive attitude with other success principals, you become unstoppable.

Positive and Negative Attitudes

Attitude could be positive as well as negative. People with a negative attitude are pessimists. They have the following traits:

  • They are rude.
  • They find faults within everything.
  • They focus on what is missing.
  • They see limitations.
  • They always feel unwell and perceive this world as a threatening place.
  • These kinds of people face countless failures throughout their lives, which further make them negative.

On the other hand, Positive attitude people are optimistic. These people have the following traits:

  • They concentrate on solutions.
  • They look for the good in others.
  • They count blessings.
  • They see possibilities.

Success And Attitude

Jeff believes that everything is dependent upon attitude, including success and failure. The key to success is in just six words.

“WE BECOME WHAT WE THINK ABOUT.”

You can achieve your goals when you believe in yourself and keep your thoughts focused on positivity. When your dominant belief is that you can achieve your goal, you begin taking the actions necessary to move in that direction. But if your thoughts don’t change, your results won’t change.

Whatever you listen to or speak has a very big influence on your mind. They get into your thoughts and then your thoughts determine your actions. Furthermore, your actions determine your attitude and your attitude determines success.

Jeff Keller further says that to achieve your goals and dreams, you must apply the law of attraction in your life. Be willing to achieve your dreams no matter whatever that takes. People with a burning desire and a determination of never giving up are the ones who achieve success. As Napoleon Hill says in best-seller book, ‘Think and Grow Rich’

“What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve it.”

Many people start their new business with undetermined attitude. They that if things work for them in a few months or a year, they will continue, if it doesn’t, they will leave. People with these kinds of approaches mostly fail. You only lose when you give up. Others all are just temporary failures.

People have many fears. Running away from fear is a losing strategy. Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is certain. If you want to be successful, you must be willing to escape your comfort zone. You must fight against your fears. See yourself as a winner before you confront your challenges.

And finally, do not discuss your goals or dreams with negative people. They will create doubts into your mind. Never complain, instead be responsible and bring change. Surround yourself with nourishing people. Nourishing people are positive and supportive. Contrarily, toxic people will always try to drag you down.
